After graduating from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in 1999 with a degree in Entrepreneurship, I began my career managing bars and restaurants in Chicago, where I met my wife, Libby. In 2002, I made a pivotal decision to join the United States Coast Guard - a move that would shape the next two decades of my life and career.

My Coast Guard journey took our family across the country, from the San Francisco Bay Area to Southeast Louisiana, and eventually to Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Florida, where I earned my pilot wings. Following flight school, I was stationed in Clearwater, Florida, flying the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and specializing in long-range search and rescue missions. During this chapter, Libby and I welcomed our son, Patrick, in 2007.

In 2010, we relocated to Sitka, Alaska, where entrepreneurship once again called. With the support of my brothers, Jeff and Dave, we opened The Bayview Pub. The Pub quickly became a beloved community gathering place, and just months after opening, our daughter, Scout, was born in 2011. We successfully owned and operated The Bayview Pub until 2015, when we sold the business to pursue new opportunities.

Subsequent Coast Guard assignments took us to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, before my final role brought us back to the San Francisco Bay Area. As my service career drew to a close after more than 20 years, Libby and I made the decision to return home to Bloomington, Indiana, where our children are now preparing to attend Indiana University.

Driven by a continued desire to serve others, I launched Altruistic Joe Coffee—sourcing high-quality beans from small, sustainable farms around the world and building a brand around the belief that great coffee can also do great good. A portion of every sale supported charitable causes, aligning purpose with product.

When I stepped into my current role as a remote-working Director for a nonprofit organization focused on transformational leadership development for college undergraduates, I made the difficult but intentional decision to wind down Altruistic Joe Coffee. While it was bittersweet to close a chapter so rooted in purpose and connection, I’m energized by the opportunity to focus fully on developing the next generation of leaders.

At our core, Libby and I have always enjoyed owning and operating a business together. At this stage of life, however, we’re intentional about where we invest our time and resources. We’re not interested in risking a large portion of our nest egg or committing to long hours. Instead, we chose to partner with a company we’ve been loyal customers of for more than 25 years, building on something we already know and trust. Centered around a premier product line, we’ve developed a simple, duplicatable system designed to help our partners create meaningful, long-term income, whether as a flexible side venture or a full-time pursuit.
